Abstract As an alternative to the commonly used swirl burners in microgas turbines (MGT), FLOX®-based combustion concept promises great potential for nitric oxide emission reduction and increased fuel flexibility. Despite having deal with a new set of challenges while utilizing liquid burner, first steps are taken gain more information on influencing operational parameters. In this regard, burner is developed fit into newly designed combustor Capstone C30 MGT. The operates three arranged tangentially annular chamber provides total thermal power 115 kW. work, properties merely one investigated rest two emulated form hot cross-flow. burners, experiments conducted geometrically different single-nozzle at atmospheric pressure. cross-flow realized by 20–nozzle natural gas combustor. Measurements include visualization reaction zone analysis exhaust emissions. By detecting hydroxyl radical chemiluminescence (OH*-CL) emissions, position heat release within attained. Correspondingly, flame height above length calculated. design parameters air preheat temperature up 733 K, equivalence ratio, geometry, power. Through variation power, effect preparation, i.e., atomization, evaporation, mixing emissions examined. results show that medium diameter consistently performed remarkably temperatures powers. lowest NOx CO lied between 5 7 ppm 8 10 ppm, respectively.
